This was taken using KSnapShot on Kubuntu Linux 8.04, codename "Hardy Heron". The resulting PNG was optimised with pngout.
It shows an installation of Windows XP Pro running in "seamless mode" inside a virtual machine created by the VirtualBox program.
You can see my KDE desktop, with its left-aligned toolbar. The desktop background is not an image, but a dynamic map of the world indicating in real time what locations are in daylight. The Cairo Clock applet can be seen running in the top right.
On top of this, you can see XP software. At the bottom of the screen is the XP bar, giving me access to all the applications in the start menu. There are four XP windows open: Windows Explorer, Disk Defragmenter, Internet Explorer and K-Meleon (a Mozilla browser optimised for Windows).
Since I have installed the Royale Noir theme, the XP bar and windows do not have that blue look you may be used to. This theme looks a bit more like Vista, and fits in with the Emerald theme that I use on Linux.
As you can see, there is no need to worry about not being able to run your favourite Windows software if you switch to Linux.
